Well, folks, we have been waiting patiently in the southern plains to get our trowels and soil ready for our fresh gardens. There are a lot of things that our recipes require and the most important one is the ” Fresh ingredients” that come from a beautiful garden. We have a plethora of vegetables that we like to plant and fruits if the garden is big enough. There is a season schedule that you must adhere to for maximum yield of crops. We talked to our Landscaping OKC experts at GM landscaping and irrigation to get their take on, what’s the best way to build out and irrigate our gardens that will fit our budget and inner city properties. Gerry, the owner, is a renowned landscaping master in OKC and the surrounding metro. He explains that he looks at a few different aspects of the property to assure that a garden will work. You must have good soil number one. Second, you must have a good water supply close to assure proper irrigation and also drainage so there is no standing water to create future erosion problems in your yard. We like the use of railroad timbers to build a raised garden so that we have a good depth in our gardening soil. There is also a better chance of weed control and placement of our sprinkler system. The use of a couple different soils is critical to prepare your plants so they have the proper nutrients and longevity through the harsh summer months. The use of a weed control barrier is also a must so you don’t have to worry about too much upkeep in “weeding the bed.” We love the fact that you can live right in the city and have your own mini farm for fresh veggies and fruits. Nothing better than a fresh garden salad of your choice right in your own backyard.
